Stroke recovery: A Walmart valentine

Signs of spring marketed for Valentine gifts

A trip to Walmart Saturday reminded me of a visit to the same store the weekend before Valentine’s Day 2012, 10 months after a hemorrhagic stroke had done a number on the sensory and motor nerves responsible for carrying messages to and from my body's left side.

At the end of that shopping excursion I was drained and discouraged. After I processed the experience for a couple of days, I posted about it here.

A valentine orchid--blue moth variety, perhaps?

In contrast I ended this Saturday’s Walmart visit with energy left for snapping more posey photos to add to those I shot when we first arrived.

A striped beauty
Come to think of it, the presence of more flowers and fewer valentine balloons may have contributed to my energy. I find flowers calming and renewing.

Happy Valentine’s Day 2014!

Yes, quite a difference between the 2 valentine shopping events. I even saw my comment to your first post on valentine. Flowers calm me, too.

You've come a long ways, baby, as the saying goes. I guess we both have. I so remember your post about Valentine's Day at Walmart. I remember it because I was at the same place in my ability to take in the overwhelming sight of color, shapes, and various levels of objects in the air and on the sides of me in a place like WalMart on Valentine's Day a few years ago. Thankfully, Praise God, our brains are healing. You are right, flowers heal. Flowers calm. Thanks for these beautiful photos.

You have definitely come far in you stroke saga.
If I was there I would give you a posy to encourage you.
We're on our way to Walmart right now. I think I will get a Daffodil to remind me of you and say a little prayer.

I did not realize you had a stroke. You certainly have rebounded--so glad to hear. Being among God's creation (even if it's the floral dept of WM) is a great way to feel better about everything. Daffodils always make me smile.
