Guilty Pleasure

Breakfast in front of our wood-burning stove is a cold weather treat that Hubby and I enjoy.

Yesterday was busy and delightful. Today I'm taking some after breakfast downtime in front of the fire. I'm also indulging in a guilty pleasure—reading clean chick lit.

******
I wrote the above when temperatures in our area were chilly. The next week it warmed up. Today, though, the temperature is headed toward chilly again, cool enough for a fire in our wood stove.

Once again I'm in front of our wood-burning stove after a busy morning. I'm reading, but this time on a new Kindle Paper White.

My old Kindle, purchased on Mother's Day of 2012, finally bit the dust. With great sadness I confess that all attempts to resucitate it failed.

Hubby bought me the new Kindle. He also switched the worn but serviceable cover from my old Kindle to the new one. He's well aware of my tendency to drop things.

Now I'm ready to sign off and indulge in a double pleasure, reading a clean romance on my new Kindle.

What's your guilty pleasure?

  1. It sounds so nice, reading in front of the fire to start your day. I don’t think you should feel guilty one because t. One of my little pleasures is, my husband buys me Lindnor’s truffles and I have one after dinner every day! It doesn’t feel like the day is complete unless he brings me my truffle! And I have another, which is a coffee shop coffee now and then. I drink tea at home but once in a while a special coffee tastes soooo good.

    1. Never had a truffle! I have read about them, but it seems my gastronomical experience is severely lacking. Will have to do a little research on Lindnor’s truffles to see how truffles are with diabetes. Thanks for visiting!

  2. Afraid I don't know what clean chick lit is. My guilty pleasure would be shopping!

    1. Clean chic lit is my reference to romance novels that are sweet and clean, not steamy or containing bad language. I would probably do better to shop in person, too, but thankfully there is the internet! Thanks for visiting!

  5. Wish I had a fire to read in front of but reading is such a pleasure. I have gotten so attached to my Kindle that I really don't want to mess with a hard cover anymore.

  6. ready in my kindle paper white is my most favorite thing to do. it is at the top of the list and reading has been since I could hold a book. I don't consider it guilty though. Back when my kids were growing up, it was a guilty pleasure and I have been known to read a paperback book in one hadn while frying chicken

    1. Now that was one thing I didn't do back in the day, because by the time our family included two kids, Hubby had taken over cooking and I was clean-up crew.

  7. Glad you were able to get a new kindle and can sit in front of that delightful fire and read.
Okay...my very guilty pleasure , which I am not suppose to do...is to eat a bowl of gooey caramel ice cream...Haven't had one in quite a while but it sure gives me pleasure plus unwanted pounds and A1c numbers.

    1. Sympathy with your struggle with foodie pleasures that affect that A1c number! If I can walk more than a mile a day, it helps, but doctor visits, church activities and other commitments, such as going to our favorite coffee shop, interfere more often than I want to admit! Prayers for us both about dietary challenges!

  9. Your new Kindle sounds wonderful, Linda! And reading by a fire sounds downright heavenly. I cannot sit by a fire as I will just get too hot, but -- don't laugh -- on cold days (my house is kept very cool year-round) I will put on the roaring fireplace YouTube and enjoy the crackling and honestly I can almost smell that fire. I haven't done it this year because it has been so warm, and now this week going up into the high 70s and low 80s again. We are heading west on Wednesday but it will be warm most of the time there too. As for guilty pleasures ... I can't eat sweets any more so it's pretty much reruns of Law & Order, my favorite police procedural! Haaaha! xoxo

  10. Reading some of the comments above, I'm not sure that reading is a guilty pleasure. Reading, unless it's junk reading, is a pleasure, period. I think eating iceream with whipped topping on top would cause more guilt, while being such a huge and wonderful pleasure.

  11. I would love to have a fire to sit by...I so love a real fire. I love reading, too...and playing on computer. I don't read as much as I used to, but always have a book I am reading. I feel sort of lost when I finish a book, and don't have one picked out to read. I love my paperwhite.

  12. Like yours, I also like reading when I'm supposed to do something else. Actually, that's daft, why can't I read anytime I feel like it? Not guilty, just a pleasure.
