Hiking Trail for Me

On the handicap trail near Sugarlands Visitor Center in the Smokies

On a 2016 camping trip Hubby and I were determined to explore a handicap accessible trail that we had noticed before but never stopped.

Usually we passed by because the limited parking spaces were taken or evening and darkness were approaching.

The paved pathway was perfect for my navigating with the help of a hiking stick. The trail was also long enough to be a challenge, but  also had strategically placed benches.

My biggest problem was keeping my balance when trying to get my nose close enough to read the signs about the plants and history of the area.

Happy trails!

  2. Looks like a nice trail and easy enough to walk along. It would also be wheelchair accessible and that is great.

  4. i find it so hard to read signs with my trifocals, and it is easy to tip over if leaning to far..

  5. That is a very inviting trail and it is wonderful that they are provided. Think I could navigate that one but I'd have trouble reading the signs also.

  9. This trail looks fabulous. One day I'm hoping to get back to the Smokies -- have close friends in East Tennessee -- and would love to try this. Thanks for your comments. I'm so glad I took advantage of opportunities to travel.

  10. Dear LC, I so understand two of the physical concerns you mentioned in passing: balance and vision. My balance, because of Meniere's Disease and vision, is pretty iffy so walking is always an adventure. And, like you, I have to lean in close to read trail markers. But, oh, I so admire you for doing all this. Take care and be gracious to yourself. Peace.
